Prayer

Prayer of the Week - 16th July

Living God,

your love and grace surrounds and guides us,

each new day.

Help us all to accept that truth in our hearts,

live it out in our lives and

share it in the communities where we serve.

In Your Name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 9th July

As constant as the rhythm of day and night,

as invariable as the tide's ebb and flow,

a love that is more immense than the sky

and utterly dependable,

whether the skies are clear,

or the storm clouds threaten.

Undeterred by surface storms

your compassion runs deep,

dependable, inexhaustible,

seeking to draw all into your infinite love.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 2nd July

O eternal Trinity,

ocean of love,

source of light

and abyss of beauty,

bathe us in the glory of your creation,

save us by the wounds of your grace

and transform us by the gift of your Spirit.

O abyss of wisdom we glorify you!

O Godhead we worship you!

O deep sea of eternal love, we bless you,

now and for ever.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 25th June

Love is your meaning, O Lord.

Before ever you made us you loved us.

Your love has never slackened nor ever shall.

In love all your works have been begun,

by love you sustain them and

our life in your love is everlasting.

So let the beginning and ending of all

our loving be to see our God for ever.

We pray for those who are at conference,

and the decisions which have to be made.

For all those who will be moving into new circuits,

some for the first time.

May they see your love in everything around them.

In Your Name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 18th June

Gracious God,

We pray for those caught up in the fire at Grenfell Tower,

for casualties, for the wounded, for the missing and the traumatised.

We pray for the emergency services and for those who are responsible for

co-ordinating the response to this major incident.

In despair, bring hope

In injury, bring healing

In fear, bring comfort.

In our helplessness be our strength.

In your mercy hear our prayers.

in Christ's name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week -11th June

Out of the depths of pain you come, Lord Jesus;

your healing and comforting hands surrounds us all,

bringing calm, peace and a sense of well-being.

Come, now Lord Jesus to your crying and suffering world.

We hear the cries of the persecuted;

the families fleeing for thier lives from war-torn areas.

We hear the cries of those families who

have been torn apart by all the tragic events

in the last few weeks, in Manchester and in London.

We hear the cries of those who live on our streets,

and look for their next meal and safe place to sleep.

So, come Lord Jesus, and put your loving arms around all your creation;

fill the bellies of the hungry, comfort the sick and dying,

stay near to those who are suffering,

and give us hope in a world of hopelessness.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 4th June

Loving God we pray,

For the Spirit of Peace

that calms our mind and stills our life,

we give you thanks.

For the Spirit of Love

that touches hearts and reaches out,

we give you thanks.

For the Spirit of Joy

that lifts our soul and gives us faith,

we give you thanks.

For the Spirit of Power,

that gift of grace, for this your church,

we give you thanks.

In Your Name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 28th May

Lord Jesus Christ,

companion and interpreter,

as stranger and friends

you match your pace to ours upon the road,

bringing questions and answers,

discomfort and reassurance,

promsie and potential.

Walk with us always, we pray,

unravelling mystery, revealing truth

and breaking bread;

until our eyes are fully opened to your presence

and our burning hearts inflamed by your precious love.

Amen

Pray for the City of Manchester.

Hold them in your hearts and thoughts.

For this tragedy is not your will,

Yours is of love not anger;

Yours is of friendship not hate;

Yours is of unity not division;

For we all stand together, across the country and the world,

to show we are stronger as one.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 21st May

Aldersgate Sunday

Bless, loving God,

the work of the World Methodist Council.

May it grow in its ecumencial relations,

in campaigning for justice and peace,

in supporting education, family and youth ministries,

and in sharing in the task of evangelism throughout the World.

Gracious God,

As we hear your call to fast, we confess our greed.

As we hear your call to prayer, we confess our indifferance.

As we hear your call to give, we confess our selfishness.

We have put our own needs before the needs of others.

We have ignored the cries of other members of our global family.

We have been slow to achieve the vision which you invite us to share.

Merciful God, may our hearts be strangely warmed in this moment

as we receive the assurance that our sins are forgiven through

Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen

That all nations may live

free from fear and free from want.

Amen

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not discriminate

- teach us to do the same.

We have all sinned and fallen short of your glory - yet you still love us.

No one is outside of your love - you died that All our sins would be forgiven,

you call us to repent and walk in your ways,

to love as you love, in and through your strength and power.

In sad and difficult times, let us hear your call in our lives

and respond to you and make this world a better place for all,

to your priase and glory.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 30th April

Praise to you, O Lord and our God,

for the jewel of our sight,

the treasure of our hearing,

and the glory of our speech.

Pardon our ingratitude

and teach us to render you a thankful heart.

Open our eyes to your glory,

our ears to your word

and our mouths to proclaim your goodness;

now and forever.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 23rd April

Faith, Hope, Love

Heavenly Father,

We are of such little faith,

we see your ways,

but we do not walk them.

We understand your love,

but we do not love the same.

Help us to keep faith with you.

Where the best is the enemy of the good,

help us to know your good.

Where an absence of conflict is the enemy of peace,

help us to pursue your peace.

And through all the issues of this day be our guide.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 16th April

Living God,

our life is in your hands,

and we offer you all that we are,

all that our past has made us,

and all that we may become.

Build us up by the power of your Spirit

into a spitirtual temple

where you are glorified day after day,

in all your praise and worship,

and in our love for one another.

We thank you with gratitude

for your presence all over the world.

We rejoice today and everyday

in the wonder of the Resurrection.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 9th April

The King is coming, the people rejoice, singing 'Hosnana in the highest!'

yet fail to understand that the King they welcome is the Servant King,

the King who washes his disciples' feet,

the King who came not with an army,

but a weapon so powerful that not even death could resist,

the sacrificial love of God laid out upon a Cross.

Lord God, as we sing our 'Hosannas' today

may we remember also that you was riding toward;

the suffering and rejection, pain and humiliation,

the cruel Cross.

And let us look forward to the joy of Easter Day

when you rose from death to reign forever.

Help us, as we daily lay our lives before you,

to live the resurrection life that acknowledges

Jesus as Lord and King over our lives.

In Your Name

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 2nd April

Forgive us Lord for our apathy,

for our lack of courage to speak out.

Forgive us when we walk past and don't offer help.

forgive us when we get it wrong.

We confess that we are afraid -

we don't want to overcome our hidden doubts and prejudices

in order to be alongside those who are different from ourselves.

We ask that you would lead us into action:

give us strength to be a voice crying for justice and peace.

Help us to step into another person's shoes,

or if they have no shoes

then not to be afraid to take off our own,

peel off our preconceptions and assumptions,

uncurl and spread out our toes, and

tread in their footprints.

May we be a liberating presence

and offer love, compassion and whatever is needed

to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with you our God.

In Your Name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 26th March

May the Lord who brought us to birth by his Spirit,

strengthen us for the Christian life.

May the Lord who provides for all our needs sustain us day by day.

May the Lord whose steadfast love is constant as a mother's care,

send us out to live and work for others.

And the blessing of God Almighty.
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be with you and remain with you always.

Amen.

Prayer of the Week - 19th March

Another day, another hour, another minute.

O God, how hard it is for me to get through this time.

Another day, another hour, another minute.

What a gift, gracious God, how shall I fill them?

Help me to see time as a gift from you.

May I look forward to each returning day,

full of hope and anticipation.

And when I feel weary,

and life is tough,

and time drags,

may I remember that each moment is precious;

that once it has gone it cannot be relived.

And at the end of each day,

may I rejoice in all it has brought.

Each day, each hour, each minute, lived in your presence.

In Your Name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 12th March

God of new beginnings,

we are walking into mystery.

We face the future, not knowing

what the days and months will bring us

or how we will respond to them.

Give us faith to go out with courage

not knowing where we go,

knowing only that your hand is leading us

and your love supporting us,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 5th March

Lord,

teach us to find space

even in the hubbub and turmoil of our daily lives,

to discover moments of tranquility

in the most unlikely of places.

Help us to transform

the frustations of a traffic queue,

standing at the checkout

or waiting for our turn in the doctor's surgery

into an oasis of stillness within

as I allow Christ

to be all things

and in all places.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 8th January

Dear God,

are you 'well pleased' with us?

Could it really be true that we are your beloved?

Give us the courage to believe that,

in our baptism, you chose us, and anointed us

to serve you.

Give us the grace with which to burn, with love for you

and for your people.

Give us the Holy Spirit, to come upon us,

to anoint us and to bless us,

so that we may know that we are yours.

Lord Jesus Christ,

as we begin a New Year, here we are,

ready to work with you, however you like.

You have no body on earth but ours,

no hands but ours,

no feet but ours.

Ours are the eyes through which your

compassion must look at on the world.

Ours are the feet by which we walk alongside you,

guiding others to follow your path.

Ours are the hands, by which we hold out to those in need.

Bless our minds and bodies so that we may continue your good works,

wherever we are.

Amen

we re-live that waiting with them,

re-live that small bright hope

as it brightens into the full glory

of the coming of Jesus.

Come, Lord Jesus, come.

the outcast, the neglected,

the asylum seeker, the runaway,

the lonely and the homeless.

Give us faith to see all people as your children

and all children as your people,

and to make our only goal one of love,

for it is in the unfolding of love

that we are told the kingdom of God comes near,

and that is more important than burnt offerings or sacrifice.

to move and to shape this earth into its complex wholeness,

And this we ask for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Forgive us, O Lord,

when we listen, but do not hear;

through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 7th August

Creator of all, thank You for summer!

Thank You for the warmth of the sun

and the increased daylight.

Thank You for the beauty I see all around me

and for the opportunity to be outside

and enjoy Your creation.

Thank You for the increased time I have

to be with my friends and family,

and for the more casual pace of the summer season.

Thank You for all of the atheletes who are

competing in Rio at the Olympic Games.

May they know Your love and peace,

so that they strive to be the best.

Whether they win medals or not,

grant them the understanding,

to know that it is the participation,

the friendship and the sporting bond,

that unites them all from every corner of the world.

Draw me closer to You this summer.

Teach me how I can pray no matter

where I am or what I am doing.

Warm my soul with the awareness of

Your presence, and light my path with

Your Word and Counsel.

As I enjoy Your creation, create in me

a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.

Amen

God of all,

when our world seems to be falling apart around us,

remind me that this is your world.

We pray for all those who have been caught up in conflict

around the world.

We pray especially for those in France.

God of all,

the creator of this world, one yet divided,

forgive us that we allow divisions

between ourselves and people of other faiths

and so add to instability in the world.

Teach us that it is the responsibility of us all to reach out

with the hands of friendship and build safer communities.

Help us, God of all, to work for peace.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 24th July

As our schools break up for the summer

and many adults and children adventure to different parts of your beautiful world,

please keep us safe, whether by rail, road, air or sea.

May we praise you for the marvelous world in which we live,

may we experience all the glorious things around us.

For the foods we eat, the people we meet

and the love that surrounds us all;

and especially for the happiness of summer.

For the activities we enjoy

and the freedom which this season brings.

May every moment be filled with the joy of the knowledge

of the love of our living Lord.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 17th July

Great and generous God,

we adore you and in our hearts we bow before you.

and that you will give us the grace to help us to do this.

Thank you for the wonderful patchwork of lives we are all involved in.

We wish to be obedient to the call of your Son Jesus Christ

to make a difference, being salt to bring cleansing

and light to show the way in the place we serve and live.

May we live and tell the good news of your kingdom;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and regins with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 10th July

Dear Lord,

Every child has the right to live, to be safe and to be loved.

Every young person has the right to be housed,

to have enough money to live in dignity,

and to have enough support for the future.

Every young person has the right to justice,

to realise their potential,

and to be given the space to become independent.

In an often cruel and imperfect world,

we uphold the work of Action for Children

with children and young people in danger,

in need and at risk.

We support the growth of this work

and the pursuit of all these rights for the young,

the discounted and the vulnerable.

We make this covenant with Action for Children

for the sake of all God's children.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 3rd July

Day by Day, O Lord

let us ardently seek your presence,

lovingly walk with you

and willingly spend ourselves in your service.

At the day's end let us not be found hiding our talents,

nor at the end of our life be unready to rise up and meet you

in the feast of your kingdom;

through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 26th June

Father,

Make me a channel of your peace,

where there is hatred, let me bring your love;

Where there is injury, your pardon Lord;

And where there's doubt, true faith in You.

O Master, grant that I may never seek,

So much to be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope;

Where there is darkness, only light;

And where there's sadness, ever joy:

O Master, grant that I may never seek,

So much to be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

In giving to all men that we receive,

And in dying that we're born to eternal life.

A Prayer for Orlando

Father God, your hands reach around the whole world,

your hands reach to every single human being.

We pray for this community now, that your Holy Spirit

will speak words of peace, words of compassion and hope,

that you will bring light where there is darkness,

and that you will bring healing where there has been tearing down.

We pray that your love would overcome hate,

and that you would help us as the Church

to reach out in love and to listen and to engage positively

with the LGBT community in their time of pain.

In Your Name

Amen

Thank you, friend Jesus,

for my father who loves me,

For those who have never been able to be a father.

How Blessed I am!

We thank you for those whose vision and research

enable new ways of caring,

Prayer of the Week - 29th May

Love is your meaning, O Lord.

Before ever you made us you loved us.

Your love has never slackened nor ever shall.

our life in your love is everlasting.

So let the beginning and ending of all

our loving be to see our God for ever and ever.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 22nd May

Lord God,

may we always seek not personal power

but the public good;

may we face conflicts honestly

and work to build up our communities

on what is good, true, just and right.

When I am tempted to hold on

to what I think is mine,

to my way of doing things,

to my security blankets;

help me to let go enough to discover

that in Christ, all things are possible.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 15th May

O Saviour Christ,
in whose way of life lies the secret of all life,
and the hopes of all the people,
we pray for quiet courage to meet this hour.
We did not choose to be born
or to live in such an age.
But let its problems challenge us,
its discoveries exhilarate us,
its injustice anger us,
its possibilities inspire us,
and its vigour renew us
for your Kingdom’s sake.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 8th May

In the rhythm of the seasons

in the turning of the days

the heartbeat of the creating God may be heard.

In the soothing surge of waves

in the soft tattoo of falling rain

the heartbeat of the sustaining God may be heard.

In the hungry cry of the infant

in the vacant eyes of the addict

the heartbeat of the just God may be heard.

In the blush of green against dark earth

in the tears of peace

the heartbeat of the redeeming God may be heard.

May we have ears to hear

and the ability to discern the good news of God in our midst.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 1st May

Almighty God,

we thank you that your love for us is new every morning,

   and our anxietes about the future;

despite the memories we treasure

   and the hope we have.

Help us to glimpse your love today,

that we may make the most of now!

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 24th April

Lord God,

help me to face this day,

with all those thoughts

that have kept me awake, and yet now,

as morning dawns, seems less important.

Help me to put things into perspective

to face the challenges and not to dwell on

those little things that have grown

to the size of a mountain in my mind.

As I step out today give me courage to say sorry

where I have caused hurt.

Please give me patience and strength

to enter into this new day with you.

Amen

Father, if we as the Church

are truly to be the body of Christ,

then let us stand at the foot of the cross

and learn what it means to love and keep on loving;

to serve and keep on serving.

If the world is ever to see real hope,

then purify and transform our lives

and stretch out our arms in loving forgiveness,

with no exceptions and no small print,

so that we shine as lights in the darkness.

Father, we, too, spread our coats on the road

as we express our thankfulness

for all you have done for us

and for the amazing extent of your love.

You are God, we welcome you!

Amen

showing how much each one of us is loved,

help us to accept your love and to share it with others.

How wondrous and beautiful you are in

Gracious God,

you have prepared for us in Christ

such good things as pass our understanding.

In those things for which we can make ready,

grant us vision;

grant us courage;

in those things which find us unready,

grant us the wisdom to trust and know that

'all things in Christ are ready now'.

We ask this in the power of his spirit

and for the sake of his kingdom.

Amen

the curiosity of children.

Help us to show respect and to value one another,

remembering that we are all made in your image.

Amen

May the compelling love of Christ for life on earth

drive us, as disciples, to hallow

the food we eat

the company we keep

the communities we create

so that love may permeate whole lives,

all life, and the planet itself.

In Your Name

Amen

O Lord,

In this Advent of expectation

draw us together in unity,

that our praise and worship

might echo in these walls

and also through our lives.

In this Advent of expectation

draw us together in mission,

that the hope within

might be the song we sing,

and be the melody within our lives.

In this Advent expectation

draw us together in service,

that we may all work in unity,

where the community needs us,

for the Night Shelter within our town.

In this Advent expectation

may we all enjoy the fun, laughter and love

that our youth provide

and sharing the wonderful word of your birth

through all our nativities.

In this Advent expectation

draw us together in fellowship

that we may all follow the path

which might lead us from a stable

to a glimpse of eternity.

during these times of uncertainty and violence.

We pray for just and peaceful governance

and an end to terror and insecurity.

We pray for all Christians throughout the world

for whom discrimination and even persecution

are a daily reality.

O Loving God,

who suffered for us and suffers with us,

use the energy of our anger

and the depth of our despair

to transform us,

heal us, and restore our hope.

O Loving God,

may we stand united at this time,

support and comfort one another

through each and every day.

Amen

We ask this in Your Name.

Jesus, remember me.

When I am hungry for faith, be my bread.

When I am in the dark, be my light.

When I am exposed and alone, be my gate to safety.

When I am lost and afraid, be my shepherd.

When I am in the presence of death, be my resurrection and life.

When I cannot see where to turn, be my way and my truth.

When I am dry and drifting form you, be my sustaining vine.

Jesus, remember me.

Amen

O God of truth and justice,

we hold before you those men and women

who have died in active service.

As we honour their courage and cherish their memory,

may we put our faith in your future;

for you are the source of life and hope,

now and forever.  Amen

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Prayer of the Week - 25th October

Heavenly Father,

We thank you for our Church and for those whose faith

and examples helps us to grow as Christians,

to learn and understand your word,

to feel your presence,

and who help us feel our faith is strengthened.

We thank you for your word

and the opportunity to read it in various versions.

For the new ways in which your word is available

whether it is on our computers, laptops, tablets or mobile phones.

We can therefore use unplanned times and locations

of our days to read your word.

Help us to strengthen our knowledge

of your word, by reading, study, discussion and sharing.

So that we can become a better disciple of Your Word.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 18th October

Dear Lord,

A man who lives along the road

How happy he must be -

He has most everything he wants

Much, more than me!

But when I close my own front door

That's when I know it's true -

I didn't need all that he's got,

Dear Lord, because I have you!

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 11th October

"Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food,

or thirsty and gave you something to drink?

And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you,

or naked and gave you clothing?

And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?"

The king will answer them,

"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these

who are members of my family, you did it to me."

We therefore pray

justice

for the falsely accused,

freedom

for the wrongly imprisoned

healing

for the tortured or abused

care

for the orphan and widow

concern

for the refugee and dispossessed

and above all

forgiveness

for our emotional detatchment.

May we weep as you weep

love as you love

this and everyday.

Amen

Make us generous and open so that all may know

that you are the God of all good things.

We thank you for the harvest

from land and sea.

For all that we are able to share

with family, friends and those less fortunate than ourselves.

We share in the gift of life as well as harvest.

We thank you for all those who work tirelessly in the fields

at sea and in our supermarkets and local shops.

For today and every day we know that you are good.

In your name

Prayer of the Week - 16th August

Awesome God of grace,

may we never cease to be amazed

by the miracle of each returning day.

to see, the treasures all around us

and ponder in our hearts

all that is good.

Amen

Prayer of the Week - 9th August

Lord, we come to praise you.

We welcome our new Ministers and their families

to our Circuit.

We hope that they will find lots of friendly faces, fellowship

plenty cups of tea, coffee and slices of cake.

Making new friends can be daunting for everyone

and yet a simple "hello" with a smile breaks down all barriers.

We hope that once all their boxes are unpacked

they will have time to explore and enjoy the parks which are all around.

To have a walk along the seafront, watching the boats sailing and enjoying ice creams.

For you created such a wonderful world

that sometimes when we are too busy, we forget what we have all around us.

We ask this in Your Name.

Amen

and your love.

but of yours.

For this day and all days.
