I am Steve Watts, appointed by conference to be minister for Rayleigh and Hockley Methodist churches from 1st September 2017.
I entered ministry in 1997 serving Islington, North London. I was also chaplain to Pentonville prison at this time. My wife and I moved to the Keighley and Worth Valley circuit for 5 years before taking up the Superintendency of Ely and then Burnley for a short time.
We then moved to the Liskeard and Looe circuit before giving up full time ministry to look after my ageing mother and one of my grandchildren, five years ago.
During the past three years I have served part time in the Aylesbury circuit and latterly the Amersham circuit where I had pastoral charge of four churches.
I have also worked for short terms in Texas (three times) and Iowa.
I am supported by my wife Valerie, and we tend to work as a team when able to do so.
I enjoy any type of music, if it is tuneful, and play a number of musical interments but not all at the same time!
My interests are Garden Railways, sport of most kinds and people, again of most kinds. I also like humour!
Before coming into ministry, I served as a senior officer in the Metropolitan Police.
Very much looking forward wo our time together.
