I am the town centre minister for Southend and a presbyter within the Southend and Leigh Circuit of The Methodist Church. Unusually for a Methodist minister, I am local to Southend. I grew up in Leigh-on-Sea and moved out to Barling soon after getting married to my husband Jay. We live on a smallholding where we care for a variety of rescued animals, including Nina our dog, cats, goats and chickens.
Before training for ministry at Wesley House, Cambridge, I worked as a secondary school teacher in Wickford teaching music and media studies. I have also worked as an education advisor for the RSPCA. I am passionate about animal welfare, the environment and sustainable living, as well as about equality and social justice; I am sure these issues will be strongly reflected in my ministry.
My greatest passion and, I believe, my particular calling, is engaging with those who have little or no contact with the Christian faith and who would never dream of coming to church. It is these people in particular who will be the focus of my ministry and will include, though not exclusively, those who live, work and visit the area in and around Southend town centre. I will be looking to build relationships with those who are alienated by traditional Church and those on the margins of the community.
As this is a new ministry within the circuit, I am aware of the challenges it will entail but I am very excited about how and where God will lead, as well as by the new and varied opportunities this will bring, both for me and for the circuit.
I look forward to sharing with you in Gods mission.
