Circuit webteam: November 2017
This year the Southend Churches Winter Night Shelter (SCWNS), which is organised by the ecumenical group 'Love Southend', commences once again on Wednesday 29th November at Bellevue Baptist Church. As previously, the Southend and Leigh Circuit of Methodist Churches is taking their slot on Saturday evenings at United Methodist Church, Whittingham Avenue, commencing on 2nd December and then every 4 weeks. If you feel able to offer your services to cook, serve or just talk with guests please contact either Andrew Hyde 01702 473111, or Jo Galley on 01702 614125.
The Winter Night Shelter provides an emergency shelter, food and support for those who are in desperate need. The shelters' provide the opportunity not only to be practical, but offer kindness, friendship and a safe night off the streets. It is such a shame that we still need to provide these shelters across our town, however all the churches involved play an active part in a variety of ways. Even if you are not able to help in the shelters, we will be in need of clothing for the guests, as well as shampoo and other toiletries to be used after using the shower facilities that you provided a couple of years ago, before dining and then sleeping on the camp beds that you provided last year.
This is such a well worth venture as we provide accommodation at a difficult time, over and above what is available at HARP.
This year the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve stints both fall to Avenue Baptist Church. If anyone would especially like to help out on those days please talk with Andrew Hyde.
