I am Michael Moon, the minister for United Methodist Church, serving Great Wakering, Shoeburyness and Whittingham Avenue in the Southend and Leigh Circuit. It is a great pleasure to serve the Lord and his ministry in the new circuit starting from the year 2015.
I was born in South Korea and worked as a missionary, as well as a multicultural minister in various places since 1979. Before coming to this circuit, I have worked in Korea, Philippines, Slovakia, Australia and other areas in the UK.
Apart from the ministerial trainings in Korea, to sharpen my career in ministry, I undertook various trainings during my time in the UK, such as missionary training (Redcliff College), adult religious education (University of Surrey), Asian & African Studies (SOAS, University of London), and after coming back from the Philippines I completed my research in mission studies at University of Wales.
I am married to Jane Moon with four daughters and five grandchildren. One of my daughters, the eldest daughter, Hannah, is a local preacher in the Methodist Church. The second eldest daughter, Susannah, works in Singapore. The two of my daughters, Joannah and Lydiah, live with me and Jane at the moment.
Regarding my ministry, I am very eager to explore contemporary worship service practices that particularly appeal to children and youngsters in the church. Particularly, due to the concerns towards trends now, that we are constantly losing many children and young people in our churches. Therefore my goal is to try to make my services interesting and visible, a creative worship or multisensory worship. So I often use my own photos and other artistic materials. Another grave concern in my ministry for today is to interpret and refurbish my ministry as a mission shaped ministry in a postmodern world.
I expect my dedication and passion in this new circuit will be a valuable instrument to serve the circuit, my colleagues and the community in the future.
I hope we can share something valuable, for the Lord and His people.
